Bloxam, Burnett & Olliver (BBO) is a New Zealand based multi-disciplinary company of consulting engineers, planners and surveyors. The company was founded by Martin Bloxam, Reece Burnett and John Olliver, who purchased the Hamilton office of Murray-North Partners Ltd after it went into receivership in 1993. BBO has grown steadily and is able to offer consultancy services in the fields of engineering, planning, surveying, contract procurement and related disciplines.
BBO have approximately 35 staff, almost all of whom are professionally qualified in their field. Staff turnover is low, ex-staff maintain contact with the company and eight of the original twelve staff are still employed by the company. Key personnel have resided in Hamilton for many years and have extensive experience in planning, engineering and surveying projects in the Waikato and Central North Island region, as well as further afield.
Despite its size, BBO regularly competes with major national and international consultants for commissions and has built a reputation both in New Zealand and overseas for providing cost effective, innovative, and practical solutions to complex problems.
BBO’s core business is roading and bridging infrastructure. The company has recently completed or is currently engaged on the following landmark projects:
- Mercer to Longswamp Expressway – design and construction surveillance of 12k of four laning of State Highway 1, including six bridges, located immediately South of the Bombay Hills;
- Rangiriri to South of Ohinewai Four Laning – Conceptual design, resource management planning and contract management for 10km of four laning of State Highway 1 in the Waikato under Transit’s first Design and Construct contract;
- Central Motorway Junction (as Subconsultants to Sinclair Knight Merz) – Conceptual design and resource management planning for Auckland’s spaghetti junction upgrade under Transit’s second Design and Construct contract;
- PPP and Toll Contract Documentation – development of pro-forma contract documents to allow Transit to toll new state highways under the Land Transport Management Act;
- Awatere River Bridge – Investigation, resource management planning and detailed design of 2.8km realignment of State Highway 1 and construction of a new 270m long bridge over the Awatere River replacing the only remaining one lane structure on State Highway 1;
- The Base – Resource management planning and design for a major commercial development in North Hamilton.
